Answers to the questions people ask most about AI memory pendants. Each is short on purpose. Longer explanations are on the page linked from the answer. Prices and specs were checked on September 29, 2026.

What is an AI memory pendant?

A wearable that captures spoken conversation and turns it into text, summaries or tasks. Some devices wait for you to press a button. Others stay on while a light or other signal shows they are active. Most are not medical devices.

Which AI memory pendants can I buy in 2026?

As of September 29, 2026 the makers below list a product for sale: Plaud (Note, Note Pro, NotePin, NotePin S), Pocket, Omi, Bee (US, iOS only), SwitchBot (AI MindClip), Anker's soundcore Work, Friend, and Legend One. Limitless stopped selling its Pendant on December 5, 2025.

Do AI pendants store raw audio?

It depends on the product. Plaud, Pocket and soundcore Work store audio on the device, and Plaud and Pocket also sync to a cloud account. Legend Memory says Legend One never creates an audio file. For Omi, Bee and Friend the product pages we read do not say, so check each maker's privacy policy.

What is the difference between a pendant and a clip?

Form. A pendant hangs from a cord at chest height. Clips attach to a collar or bag, pins attach with a magnet, and bands go on the wrist. Placement changes how well the microphones hear both sides of a conversation and how visible the device is to other people.

Is an AI memory pendant a treatment for ADHD?

No. Legend Memory describes Legend One as built for people with ADHD and says it is not a treatment, and no other device on this site claims to treat anything. See the National Institute of Mental Health page on ADHD for background on the condition.

How much does an AI memory pendant cost?

Hardware listed on September 29, 2026 runs from $49.99 (Bee Pioneer) to $499 (Legend One, which includes the first year of membership). Plaud is $159 to $189, Pocket $139, SwitchBot $119.99, soundcore Work $159 and Omi $129. Software plans are separate for most, so check the recurring cost.

Are there pendants without a subscription?

Several list a free plan. Plaud, SwitchBot and soundcore include 300 free minutes a month. Pocket's free plan includes unlimited standard-accuracy transcription. Omi says no subscription is required. Bee lists no subscription price. Legend charges $499 per year after the first year.

Which ones work with Android?

Legend, Omi, Pocket and soundcore list Android support. Bee supports iOS only. Friend pairs with an iPhone app. We did not confirm phone support for Plaud or SwitchBot on the pages we read, so check the maker before buying.

Can I still buy a Limitless Pendant?

Not new. Limitless said it stopped selling the Pendant on December 5, 2025 after Meta acquired the company and would support existing customers throughout 2026.

Is it legal to wear one?

Wearing one is legal. Recording other people is regulated. Federal law requires one party's consent, and about eleven states generally require every party to consent. See the privacy and consent page. This is not legal advice.

Do these devices work without my phone?

Some do. Omi records offline and syncs later. Pocket records offline and stores audio on the device. Legend Memory says Legend transcribes on the device and syncs text when it is back in Bluetooth range. All of them need a phone or computer to get the results.

What is the difference between a memory pendant and a voice recorder?

A voice recorder makes audio. A memory pendant adds transcription, summaries and search. In practice the categories overlap: Plaud, Pocket, SwitchBot and soundcore are voice recorders with an AI layer, while Legend is a transcription device without an audio file.

How do you decide what to include?

We list products that a buyer could plausibly weigh against each other and that a maker currently sells, plus Limitless because people still search for it. We leave out products we cannot source from a maker page or a named report.

Questions that need more than a line

Is always-on capture creepy?

It can be, which is why the visible signal matters. Legend uses a Halo light, Omi and others use device lights, and some devices have no clear signal at all. What makes it acceptable to the people around you is that they know and agree. A light helps, but it is not a substitute for saying something. The privacy and consent page has practical suggestions.

Why do so many of these have 300 free minutes?

Plaud, SwitchBot and soundcore each list 300 free transcription minutes a month. Those are five hours of speech. It is enough for light use and a common threshold for paid plans. If you talk more than five hours a month in conversations you want transcribed, plan for a paid tier or choose a product whose free plan has no minute limit.

Are certifications like SOC 2 and HIPAA a guarantee?

No. They show that a company met a standard for some processes, at the time of an audit. They do not describe what the company will do with your data if its terms change. Read the privacy policy, and check what an export looks like.

Should I wait for the next generation?

This category moves quickly. Friend released a second-generation device in July 2026 at a higher price, Plaud released the NotePin S after the NotePin, and Limitless stopped selling altogether. There is always a newer model on the horizon. If you have a use for one now and the return window is 30 days, the risk of trying one is small.
